An NBA GM Just Made An Outrageous Suggestion For The Lakers

Since the Los Angeles Lakers landed the No.2 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, there has been a growing assumption that the team will take either LSU’s Ben Simmons or Duke’s Brandon Ingram. Beyond these two promising prospects the rest of the draft still remains much of a mystery. That said, one NBA general manager believes that the Lakers should look elsewhere at their selection.

NBA draft chatter from NBA general managers, scouts and agents is arriving constantly via phone, text and email.

And what I’m hearing are provocative comments — from GMs I trust with strong track records of truth-telling this time of year — that will help decide how the draft is shaping up.

Here are some of the quotes I’ve been given this week:

“The Lakers should take Marquese Chriss at No. 2.”

Talking to Lakers sources, I think Ingram is the pick for L.A. at No. 2

The former Washington forward is arguably the most athletic prospect in this year’s draft class with his unique combination of quickness and explosiveness. He has the ability to make an impact on both ends of the floor due to his size at 6-foot-9 and skill set. Although he’s still a less polished offensive player than Ingram, he has plenty of upside that’s worth taking a chance on.

All of this still makes it hard to believe that the Lakers would pass on either Ingram or Simmons at the second overall spot. These two players are head and shoulders above the rest of the prospects in their draft class. Los Angeles can ill-afford to miss with their first-round pick.
