The Toronto Raptors just saw their season come to a close after losing Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals to the Cleveland Cavaliers. This has subsequently shifted their focus toward this upcoming offseason with All-Star guard DeMar DeRozan expected to become an unrestricted free agent. The 26-year-old has been long linked to his hometown team, the Los Angeles Lakers, and it didn’t take long for him to address those rumors.

DeRozan also went further in depth by stating that “his mindset has always been Toronto.” This is an obvious attempt to shoot down any notion that he would leave the only team that he’s played for in his NBA career. The Raptors are coming off their most successful season in franchise history, and losing DeRozan would be a gigantic step back.

Meanwhile, the Lakers are desperate need to make a big splash in free agency this upcoming summer and the addition of the seven-year veteran would be a huge step in the right direction. Los Angeles has just experienced its worst season in team history and is in need of a new face of the franchise following Kobe Bryant’s retirement. DeRozan may have for the moment quieted rumblings that he could join the Lakers in the offseason, but the rumor mill may once again heat up in a few weeks.
