Dirk Nowitzki Said This About His Future With Mavericks

It’s safe to say that Dirk Nowitzki has become the embodiment of the Dallas Mavericks. He has spent his entire NBA career with the franchise while leading them to a championship and have missed the playoffs just once in the last 16 seasons. In a recent radio interview, Nowitzki didn’t provide much clarity to his pending free agency voicing uncertainty about his offseason plans.

“I’ve got to help myself a little bit,” says Dirk in a visit with “Ben & Skin” on 105.3 The Fan. (Podcast here.) “I’m not sure where this offseason is going. I haven’t opted out as of yet. Just thinking about it.  Thinking about what the future will bring.”

Nowitzki has no intention of retiring soon possibly playing two to three  more years , but the Mavericks haven’t picked up the ball on their end of things. Dallas did add much-needed backcourt help last offseason with the additions of Wes Matthews and Deron Williams, but that wasn’t enough in the daunting Western Conference. They were steamrolled in their first-round playoff series against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The 37-year-old is still playing at a high level despite just completing his 18th season in the NBA. Nowitzki still has the ability to be an effective secondary offensive option if the right player is brought in. It’s on the Mavericks to put the right team together because the sixth all-time highest scorer in league history has without a doubt done his part.
