Former WWE Star Reveals Why AJ Styles Didn’t Join Company Years Ago

It has been just over a year since AJ styles made the jump to the WWE. However, he had initially got his shot to join the company years ago but turned it down. During a recent interview on Pancakes and Powerslams Show, former WWE talent Simon Dean revealed why Styles didn’t choose to go to the WWE years ago. (h/t Wrestling Inc.)

“I was right there for it,” Dean said, via Daily DDT. “It was me and AJ. We were in Australia doing a tour for World Wrestling All-Stars. I told him I had been signed by WWE. They had a tryout in Cincinnati and he had went to that. I thought I was going to have to go to that, and I didn’t, I went right through it. In Cincinnati, he’d told me basically, after the tour in Australia we’d come back, and they had a [show] in Vegas.

“Bob Ryder and Jeff Jarrett had come up to me, and they told me that they were launching this new company called TNA. I told them that I had just signed with WWE, and I want to give it a shot. They wanted me to come to TNA, and they wanted to build the company around AJ. So, it’s not that AJ never wanted to go to the WWE, it was just that the offer was never right for AJ to come to WWE.”

In the end, Styles chose the right route as TNA offered him a huge opportunity to make a name for himself in the professional wrestling scene. It allowed him to develop his character and persona in the ring. At the same time, he drastically improved at his craft becoming one of the top wrestlers in the business.

This has allowed for Styles to return to the WWE a completely different wrestler. He had a strong following behind him that has grown tremendously because of his work in the ring. All in all, Styles’s decision to not join the WWE then worked out for him in a huge way.
