Game 1 Of NBA Finals Just Broke This HUGE Record

Heading into this year’s NBA Finals there was plenty of excitement for the rematch between the defending champion Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers. Golden State had completed their miraculous comeback from a 3-1 series deficit in the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Meanwhile, Cleveland had steamrolled through the Eastern Conference suffering just two losses. All of this has resulted in another NBA TV ratings record being broken.

This is a matchup pitting arguably the two best teams in the league with the two best players in LeBron James and Stephen Curry. Although the Cavaliers missed a prime opportunity to snatch Game 1 on the road, it sets up for an even more intense Game 2. The Warriors can grab a commanding 2-0 series lead or Cleveland can take home court advantage for the final five games of the NBA Finals.

There will be a large audience turning in regardless of how the series plays out. The NBA Finals will primarily grab the attention because of how polarizing James has become. There will be those that want to see him win his third title and others that want to see him fall to a 2-5 record in seven career appearances on that stage. Many will also tune in to watch the Warriors’ explosive offense led by arguably the best shooting backcourt of all time. It’s a win-win situation for the league with the high level of viewership coming either way.
