Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Says LaVar Ball Is Negatively Impacting His Kids

This year’s NBA Draft class promises to be one of the strongest in league history. But despite the talent coming into the league, the man who’s been getting all the headlines doesn’t even play college ball at all.

We’re talking, of course, about LaVar Ball, the father of UCLA product Lonzo Ball. LaVar has been dominating the headlines for his outlandish statements about how he could beat Michael Jordan in a 1 on 1 or his absurdly expensive Big Baller Brand.

And while it’s certainly funny and entertaining, some worry it may impact Lonzo’s career. During an appearance on ESPN’s “His & Hers” podcast with Michael Smith and Jemele Hill on Wednesday, NBA Hall of Famer and former Los Angeles Lakers great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar touched upon the situation voicing that he believes LaVar is only harming his sons’ public image.

“I don’t think LaVar Ball is doing his sons any good. He seems to be just somebody that’s out there trying to bring all the attention to himself, and I don’t know what the purpose is for that. His sons are good athletes. Let them do their thing. I think he should step into the background.”

It has now gotten to the point where both former and current players have grown tired of the constant chatter that LaVar creates around himself and his kids. However, the media should hold some responsibility for providing Ball with the platforms to make these type of statements to a wider audience.
