Kevin Durant Has Already Spoken To This Free Agent Landing Spot Team

The NBA free agency period is less than a month away but the rumors surrounding Kevin Durant’s future are beginning to heat up. In the mere days following the Oklahoma City Thunder’s departure from the playoffs, there’s a cloud of uncertainty about whether he will return to the team next season. This is becoming a murkier situation with the Boston Celtics having already spoken to Durant’s agent, according to Butch Stearns of WEEI.

I have this on pretty good authority. The Celtics have sat with his agent and other representatives of Durant. The Celtics do know — I don’t know who it is — but they do know who he would prefer to be brought here in a LeBron-Chris Bosh–Dwyane Wade-like way. Because that’s how it works in the NBA. You need to know who the guy or guys that that guy wants, which would be a factor.

Now, I don’t know if Durant’s told them that. But the Celtics know. They know. They’ve been told what group of guys he would want to come here.

The Celtics are an interesting landing spot for Durant for this upcoming offseason. They have enough salary cap space to offer the seven-time All-Star a max contract and can pay near the max for another free agent. Boston also has an intriguing young core with Isaiah Thomas, Avery Bradley, and Jae Crowder along with a promising head coach in Brad Stevens.

This adds to the list of appealing options for Durant that also includes the Thunder, San Antonio Spurs, and Golden State Warriors. Each of these teams provides the 27-year-old with a better chance to win an NBA title with other superstars in place on the respective rosters. All of this sets the table for what could be a career-altering move for Durant.
