Kobe Bryant Had Some Choice Words For Kevin Durant In Free Agency

Kobe Bryant wrapped up his 20-year NBA career just over a month ago, but that hasn’t stopped him from staying in the media spotlight. He has kept a pulse on everything that’s going on in the league that includes texting a few words of encouragement to Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green following Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals. In a recent interview with Alysha Tsui from For the Win, Bryant kept this trend going by providing some advice for Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant before he heads into free agency this upcoming offseason.

I was just very fortunate things worked out for me in Los Angeles, but he certainly needs to look at every opportunity and make the right decision for himself – keeping in mind his fan base in Oklahoma, as well.”

This is an interesting take from Bryant given that it wasn’t long ago that he demanded a traded from the Los Angeles Lakers. However, his recommitment to the team immediately paid off as the Lakers miraculously acquired Pau Gasol at the trade deadline. This helped catapult them to three straight NBA Finals appearances winning a pair of championships. There’s certainly much credence to what the 18-time All-Star is stating about putting heavy consideration in staying with the Thunder.

Yes, there will be plenty of other viable options on the table for the former league MVP in free agency, but Oklahoma City has a strong argument as being the best opportunity for him to win a championship. He’s already playing alongside another top-five NBA player in Russell Westbrook as well as a promising group of young players in Steven Adams, Enes Kanter, and Serge Ibaka. Remember, the Thunder had the Golden State Warriors on the ropes just one win away from reaching the NBA Finals.
