Looks Like Another Team Is Out On The Kevin Durant Sweepstakes

Once the 2016 NBA Finals is completed in the next week, the focus of the league will shift immediately to Kevin Durant’s pending free agency. There’s much to be said about this being his first true experience where he will have full control of his future. With that in mind, another team appears to be crossed off Durant’s list of suitors this upcoming offseason, according to Mark Stein of ESPN.com:

Sources told ESPN.com that Harden’s Houston Rockets are not a team Durant plans to consider when he becomes an unrestricted free agent July 1, despite Harden’s presence there and the Rockets’ long-known intent to chase him.

The Houston Rockets had become a potential landing spot on the sole basis that the team possesses his former teammate and close friend James Harden. It’s no secret that the two have developed a strong relationship over the years, which gave much reason for many on social media to start buzzing about the two NBA stars hanging out this week. In truth, anything Durant does over these next few weeks is going to be heavily scrutinized and overblown.

That said, the Rockets took a significant step back last season that has made them an unrealistic option for the former league MVP. Durant has a clear desire to win a championship now given that he’s in the prime of his career. This is what brings more fuel to the fire when it comes to the possibility of bolting the Oklahoma City Thunder for the likes of either the Golden State Warriors or San Antonio Spurs. With the start of free agency still weeks away, expect more rumors about the seven-time All-Star’s future to keep filtering through.
