Paul George’s Latest Decision May Surprise You

It has been nearly two years since Indiana Pacers star forward Paul George suffered a devastating broken foot injury during a Team USA scrimmage. At the time, this raised serious questions about whether he could return to elite form following such a serious ailment. George has answered the bell on the end that has him considering playing for Team USA again.

I think I kind of said that too prematurely. I didn’t give myself enough time to really think it through. I think since I’ve been off, my body’s telling me yes, my mind is telling me yes, people around me are telling me yes. So I feel good about it. And, you know … I want to give (the Olympic team) a shot.”

The 26-year-old in his first full season back had the best campaign of his NBA career averaging a career-best 23.1 points with 7.0 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. His improved play helped him earn his third All-Star Game selection, a third All-NBA Third Team nod, and a second NBA All-Defensive Second Team selection. If the NBA was still handing out the Comeback Player of the Year award, he may have received that honor as well.

George has also earned the privilege of gracing this year’s edition of NBA 2K series. He joins an exclusive that includes the likes of Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Blake Griffin, Kevin Durant (twice), Stephen Curry, Anthony Davis, and James Harden. It certainly has been an impressive year for George, which makes potentially adding a gold medal with Team USA at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio the icing on the cake for him.
