Raptors May Have A Big Problem With Kyle Lowry

Heading into this season, the Toronto Raptors were carrying plenty of momentum after making their first conference finals in franchise history. They were also bringing back one of their primary players in DeMar DeRozan on a new long-term deal. However, the team has quite lived up their own expectations and it has begun to worry Kyle Lowry according to the Toronto Star.

“I’m starting to get worried, yeah,” Kyle Lowry said after Toronto fell to 32-23, a half-game ahead of the fifth-place Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern Conference. “It’s not going the way we’re supposed to be going and things aren’t changing, so yeah, I’m starting to get worried.”

“Everything. Everything.” Lowry said when asked what went wrong down the stretch. “Keep putting in the same situations over and over and not being successful — something gotta give, something gotta change.”

And then this, when asked if he had an idea of what’s needed? […] “I have an idea but I’m (going to) keep my mouth shut, keep it professional,” he said.

The Raptors are the midst of the standings in the Eastern Conference holding the fifth-best record, but that is a step below last season. There has been a huge level of inconsistency from the team that led to their step back. This hasn’t come from the play of their backcourt with both Lowry and DeRozan currently having career-best seasons.

All of this could lead to Toronto looking to make moves prior to the trade deadline in order to turn things around. The franchise has been linked to Serge Ibaka over the last couple of weeks. Ultimately, the Raptors need something to change or else they will continue to fall down the standings.
