The sports world lost one of its greatest athletes this past weekend with the passing of former Boxer Muhammad Ali at the age of 74. He made a tremendous impact on athletes from other major sports in the United States. Former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal paid tribute to “the Greatest” prior to Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday night.

Ali was more than just a boxer that had arguably his greatest influence outside of the ring. He was an outspoken on many of the social injustice that occurred throughout his boxing career. Although he caught much slack for his strong stance, he stuck strongly to his beliefs that earned more respect and admiration from fans and other athletes alike.

What Ali truly did was make an impact on the world far greater than he could have ever anticipated. He was the voice for many of those who didn’t have the large platform he had to address those societal issues. Ali is beyond deserving of all these endearing statements and tributes have been made toward him since his passing.
