Spurs Legend Manu Ginobli Comes Forward And Opens Up About Retirement

Manu Ginobli has accomplished so much over his career, including a 67-win season this year. Unfortunately, his time in the NBA may be coming to a close.

Ginobli was just bounced from the playoffs by the OKC Thunder and he currently has some thinking to do. He will be turning 39 in July and after 13 years in the NBA, he may finally be retiring. As for an official decision, it looks like the public will have to wait a bit longer to see if he will indeed retire.

When asked about retirement, here’s what he had to say:

“If I was miserable every day and I couldn’t stand the guys next to me, it would be an easy decision. It could have happened two years ago. I really appreciate everybody: the team, front office, coaches, everything. So it makes it different.”

He then later told reporters that he didn’t know whether or not this was his last season. One thing is for sure, Ginobli doesn’t owe anyone anything else. He has already won four NBA championships and has achieved everything he set out to do as a professional. Ginobli’s teammate Tim Duncan may also be retiring after a legendary tenure in the league, but he will also wait to decide.

It will be interesting to see what the San Antonio Spurs team looks like next season if both Duncan and Ginobli decide to hang it up. As long as Gregg Popovich is at the helm, though, we’re sure they’ll remain competitive for years to come.
