The 76ers Finally Get What They Want From Joel Embiid

When the Philadelphia 76ers selected Joel Embiid with the third overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft there was much excitement about what he could bring to the franchise. However, the former Kansas product has yet to play in a single game due to two separate surgeries on his right foot. However, the 76ers may finally have light at the end of the tunnel regarding the 22-year-old’s health as he may be ready in time to play in this year’s summer league.

“There is a chance,” Brown told CSN Philly. “I don’t know how great that chance is. Joel’s progress and his day-to-day stuff is obviously heavily scrutinized. We’ve come so far that we don’t want to do anything reckless. I say there is a chance. I can’t really quantify if it is a big chance or a small chance, but it is still on the table and we’re monitoring him every single and he’s doing very very well.”

Much could change from now until July, but the fact that he has a chance to play is a big step forward. It also brings some credence to the rumors that the front office is looking to move either Jahlil Okafor or Nerlens Noel in the offseason. The potential return of Embiid could be huge for Philadelphia in helping turn things around from the last three disastrous seasons.
