This Serious Reason Has Pau Gasol’s Status for The 2016 Olympics In Real Jeopardy

The 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro is just a couple of months away, but there’s a growing concern about the Zika virus that’s currently affecting Brazil. It has caused many professional athletes across the country to seriously question whether they want to make the trip. Chicago Bulls forward Pau Gasol recently added himself to that list.

“I’m thinking about (whether or not to go). Just like every athlete, or any other person considering going to Rio, should be thinking about it.”

Gasol also added that other Spanish athletes have also expressed their concerns about the virus and could skip the games as well. There have been athletes from other countries such as Thailand and the United States that have suggested that they may avoid going because of the virus. At this moment, the International Olympic Committee  isn’t currently considering postponing or moving the games.

The Zika virus is primarily spread through the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquitos. It’s known to cause severe birth defects and possible neurological problems in adults. It’s a very serious disease that gives anyone a justified reason to worry about.
