THIS Top Western Conference Team May Have Finally Selected Their New Head Coach

It seems as though the Houston Rockets may have found their head man in Mike D’Antoni. The former Suns coach recently finished his second interview with the team regarding the head coaching position. D’Antoni had some success as the Phoenix Suns coach in the mid-2000’s but failed to ever make it to the NBA Finals. After that, his brief stint with the Lakers was largely unsuccessful.

D’Antoni is known for his run-and-gun, small ball style offense that the Golden State Warriors employ today. However, he was never as successful as the current Warriors. The Rockets, on the other hand, had success with their current nucleus two years ago by reaching the Western Conference Finals, but fell short this season after getting bounced in the first round. Houston fired their head coach, Kevin McHale, early on in the season and are desperately looking for someone to come in and fill the void.

If D’Antoni does indeed get the job, he may have a tough time implementing his style with Dwight Howard down low. Howard is not known for being overly active on the court, nor does he seem willing to get out and run when need be. He does not fit the prototypical D’Antoni system, so this situation may lead to the Rockets saying goodbye to Howard next season.
