You Won’t Believe What Motivated Carmelo Anthony To Break This Knicks’ Record

With the recent passing of arguably the greatest U.S. athlete in Muhammad Ali, it has allowed for many prominent athletes in major sports to come forward with stories of how he has impacted their lives. This list includes New York Knicks star forward Carmelo Anthony. He stated Ali influenced with his career-high 62 points in January 2014 against the then-Charlotte Bobcats.

They played a video in the locker room for us. It was a Muhammad Ali speech and…from that point on everybody just picked their whole intensity level up.”

It was his night that saw him break Bernard King’s Knicks’ record of 60 points set in 1984.Anthony was on fire that night hitting shots from all over the floor at a high clip nailing 23 out of 35 shot attempts, including 6-of-11 from three-point range along with 13 rebounds in just 39 minutes played. He could have easily passed up his previous career high of 50 points and may have scored more than 70 had the game been a close contest in the fourth quarter.

This is just another clear example of the huge impact that Ali has had on other athletes in various sports. He transcended sports because of his larger than life personality that allowed him to also bring to the forefront major societal issues in the United States. Ali has and will always be one of the most influential people in the world of sports.
