Serge Ibaka Has Already Made His Decision On His Future With Magic

During the 2016 NBA Draft, one of the surprising moves was the Oklahoma City Thunder’s decision to ship forward Serge Ibaka to the Orlando Magic. It was something that caught everyone off guard including Ibaka. At the Magic’s media day, the 27-year-old made it well apparent what he plans on doing in free agency next offseason.

I’m looking to stay here to play forever — for [as] many, many years as possible.

This is an extremely bold statement from Ibaka given that he has yet to even play a game for his new team. He hasn’t got a true feel of what the Magic plan to do with him in their offensive game plan. That said, it will likely be a much more prominent offensive role that he had with the Thunder that should be more to his liking.

There will be a couple of things to work out for Orlando with their roster stacked with big men. The front office acquired a couple of noteworthy names such as Jeff Green and Bismack Biyombo through free agency to add to the current mix that features Nikola Vucevic and Aaron Gordon. In other words, there is still plenty to sort out before Ibaka can get a true understanding of what the Magic plan to do next season.
