The Browns Decide To Cut Losses, Release Josh Gordon

Josh Gordon may be one of the biggest “what could have been” stories in recent NFL history. His talent as a receiver was insane, and he could have become the best in the league. But with almost two years on the sidelines because of drug issues, he never lived up to the potential. With the recent news that he’s entered a rehab facility, his career with the Cleveland Browns has come to a close.

Going to rehab is absolutely the right decision for Gordon, who needs to focus on getting his life back on track before he can return his focus to football. But that doesn’t mean the Browns are going to keep him. Releasing Gordon is the right decision for them as well, after spending so much time on a player who never ended up playing. Here’s what coach Hue Jackson said to Cleveland.com:

“I think what’s best for our football team is that we move forward and move on,” said Jackson. “He’s not going to be with us and we wish him well, but we’re moving forward. We’re going to move on.”

Details haven’t been released yet, but Gordon will likely be officially released next week when his suspension ends. Gordon may be back in the NFL one day, but for now he’ll be focused on getting his life back on track.
